Real Stories: Teaching ESL is a Unique Experience

“Throughout my time as a BBA student—and now as a recent graduate—I have been volunteering with Monse-Heart for over three years. As a non-native English speaker myself, I was eager to teach others who were just beginning their English journey.
To my surprise, I met students who had lived in the USA for over a decade yet struggled to form a single sentence in English. It wasn’t just about language—it was about survival. I saw their frustration, their struggle to handle everyday conversations, and I knew I had to help. Teaching them how to actively listen and speak English became more than just volunteering—it became a mission to give them the tools they needed to navigate daily life with confidence.” — Sean, Pakistan – A Non-Native Volunteer’s Perspective

“I’m constantly amazed by the passion ESL students have for learning proper English. Their dedication to mastering grammar and punctuation is truly inspiring. They pay attention to even the smallest details, and their enthusiasm for learning makes teaching an absolute joy!” — Ms. Nan, USA – Our Grammar & Punctuation Queen

“ESL is a whole different ball game compared to teaching native English speakers! It amazes me how quickly immigrant families immerse themselves in the language and culture after just a few months of ESL classes. Seeing their confidence flourish is truly rewarding.” — Ms. Barbara’s Perspective, USA
Teaching ESL isn’t just about language—it’s about empowering students to adapt, thrive, and connect in an English-speaking world.
